Finger Lakes Wines of the Season Spring 2012

Every year the Finger Lakes wineries produce an amazing amount of fantastic wines for your enjoyment. With over 100 wineries in the region turning out cases and cases of lovely ice wines, sparklings, whites, reds and rosés, that’s a lot of wine for you to choose from.

Which is why we’re very excited about a new column in the magazine called Wines of the Season. Much like fruits and veggies from local farms, there are certain wines from Finger Lakes wineries that are great to drink during different seasons. They pair easily with the fresh ingredients and cooking styles that are most common and have the right flavor notes that you’re looking for as the weather and eating patterns shift.

To help you select local wines to go with the seasonal foods you’re preparing at home, we’re working with local sommeliers, wine merchants and wine experts to identify the wines that we think you should be drinking now. Our current issue has a great lineup of wines to pour that will taste fantastic with seasonal dishes like grilled asparagus, roasted spring chicken, sautéed fresh mushrooms, baked egg dishes, herb salads and bright strawberry desserts.

Look for these wines at your local wine shop or visit the vineyards themselves and do a tasting. You can pick up a copy of the current issue at these locations to see which wines we’re recommending and why. We hope you enjoy this new column as much as we enjoy putting it together!
