Our Summer Issue Now Available

I’m serious, when you read Peggy Haine’s article in this new issue, you can almost smell the fish fry and the crispy onion rings sizzling. We sent her, our intrepid eater-at-large, to get the back story on Doug’s Fish Fry, that fantastic spot where every Finger Lakes kid should have their first fried fish sandwich. And she wasn’t the only writer out and about. Amy Zavatto went up and down both sides of Seneca Lake to figure out what the differences really are in that East vs West winemakers debate over which wineries are best positioned to grow the best grapes. Speaking of the best, Michael Turback shared with us his research on how Ithaca can claim itself creator of the ice cream sundae, that classic American dessert. And most exciting of all is our feature story on the Wegmans Organic Farm. Kristina Strain got the inside scoop on what’s happening on a little patch of land outside Canandaigua that could have a huge impact on the quality of our local foodshed.
And be sure to check out our newest section, Edible Excursions, where we take you to the towns of the Finger Lakes and guide you to the best food and drink available. We’re on a mission to make foodie daytrippers out of all of you. 1st up in our coverage? GENEVA! That town was recently taken by storm by a swell of amazing culinary entrepreneurs. We tell you who they are, what they’re making and why you should go there now.
If you’re a subscriber, your copy should be in the mailbox any day now. If you’re not, check out the advance copies at Wegmans stores around the region. We’ll be getting copies placed throughout the Finger Lakes this week. Find your nearest spot here.
Enjoy the issue and enjoy another gorgeous summer in the Finger Lakes!
