Voters for our Local Heroes contest save a farm

The Haws family, winners for Favorite Farm in our Local Heroes contest.

Normally we get steaks, sausages, eggs, chickens and the best bacon from Autumns Harvest Farm in Romulus. Today we got tears and tissues, thanks to this inspiring note from Tim and Sarah Haws, owners of the farm.

“Hey guys,

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful article you wrote about us. Last year we were close to throwing in the towel. We acquired $20,000 in credit card debt and took out two loans just to keep the doors open. Since the article our business has nearly doubled and we have received a ton of positive encouragement from our fans. I imagine running a magazine is tough, but you and our wonderful fans saved a farm and that is worth more than I could ever describe. Thanks. Tim”

For all you folks that took the time to vote in our Local Heroes contest last year, we hope you appreciate the difference you made for a couple of lovely farmers in the Finger Lakes. If you haven’t read their incredible story yet, the current issue is only on newsstands for another week. Be sure to pick it up and read about the Haws family and all the other amazing Local Heroes of the Finger Lakes.

PS-our apologies to the Haws’ for misspelling their name in the article! Oops on our part.
