Vineyard & Winery Management Magazine announced its list of the 20 Most Admired Winemakers in North America in the November/December issue. Included is Peter Bell, winemaker at Fox Run Vineyards.
“Ruth and I are thrilled that Peter has received this recognition. I have always felt Peter was one of the most talented winemakers I know. His desire to help his industry peers and to teach aspiring winemakers is one of his enduring qualities. Ruth and I are blessed and honored that he has continued to work here at Fox Run for almost 20 years,” says Fox Run’s President Scott Osborn.
This list is generated by a nominating committee comprised of winemakers, grapegrowers, wine writers, educators, buyers, sommeliers and consultants across North America. The rules given to the nominating committee were simple: nominated winemakers must be living, and based in North America. Given those parameters, Bell was selected from a long list that was narrowed to a field of 40 finalists.
Other influential winemakers included are Bob Bertheau (Chateau Ste. Michelle), Paul Draper (Ridge Vineyards), Joel Peterson (Ravenswood Winery) and Margo Van Staaveren (Chateau St. Jean). Also on the list is another Finger Lakes winemaker and Tierce Riesling co-producer, Johannes Reinhardt of Anthony Road Wine Company and Kemmeter Wines. Fox Run Vineyards overlooks Seneca Lake in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes, America’s premier cool-climate wine region. With fifty acres of vineyards, the winery is one of the region’s first artisanal wine producers, creating a remarkable range of limited-production, site-expressive estate wines. Regularly recognized in national wine publications, Fox Run Vineyards was named one of the top 100 wineries by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2008, and has been a multiple gold medal winner at the Riesling du Monde competition in Strasbourg, France.
