The Gift of Finger Lakes Wine, Beer and Spirits

In our November/December 2014 issue, we give our “Locavore’s Guide to Holiday Gifts.” The holidays may be officially over, but we think that every season should be a “season of giving” – whether you’re buying for a loved one or just for yourself! The following wine, beer and spirits products are locally made and sure to warm you up on even the coldest Finger Lakes winter night.

Myer Farm Distillers Cayuga Gold Barrel-Aged Gin

Since this gin is aged for 10 months in the distillery’s own seasoned John Myer Whiskey barrels, it features notes of cinnamon, cardamom and Crème Brûlée. Tastes like it belongs in a party punch bowl with some orange slices and bubbly wine.

$29 for a 340-ml. bottle; $39 for a 750-ml. bottle

Beer Growlers

Buy a growler of your favorite local beer and once you’ve finished it you can refill it at most breweries. With so many beer makers in the area that offer growlers – including Rooster Fish Brewing, Nedloh Brewing and Wagner Valley Brewing, among others – the possibilties are nearly endless. Some breweries offer growler clubs: At Ithaca Beer, the 13th fill is free. Beer holds its carbonation in growlers for up to a week.
