Eat Here Now: Cayuga Lake Creamery

Story and photos by Michael Welch

I might be a coalition of one but I think ice cream tastes better in the winter. Everyone thinks of it as a summer treat but there’s something heart warming about a pint of calorie laden richness this time of year that soothes my soul.Creamery New

Which is why I’m grateful that Cayuga Lake Creamery stays open all year long. And their winter rotation of handmade ice cream
during the arctic season has flavors that will warm you up. Ginger snap spice and pumpkin cheesecake just to name a couple. I’m partial to their gianduia—don’t ask me to pronounce it—which is a chocolate hazelnut mixture which I had as a hot chocolate float (pictured right), one their smartest creations–hot chocolate with a scoop of ice cream in it. How’s that for beating the winter blues?

Oh, the creamery also serves all kinds of hot foods too. It’s not just for dessert anymore. The special pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw is especially tempting. Just be sure to save room for you know what.
