Wine Spectator Praises Finger Lakes 2013 Rieslings

Wine Spec ArticleIn Wine Spectator’s most recent issue (Jan. 31- Feb. 28, 2015), senior editor James Molesworth once again has kind words for Finger Lakes wine—particularly our Riesling production. He writes in his piece that although 2013 proved a difficult year for winemakers due to the wet and humid summer, that the weather improved by September to make for some stellar Finger Lakes 2013 Rieslings.

“Since last year’s report (‘Riesling Suceeds in 2012,’ Jan. 31- Feb. 28, 2014), I have blind-tasted 265 wines from New York’s Finger Lakes region,” Molesworth writes. “Of these, 14 earned outstanding ratings of 90 points or better on Wine Spectator’s 100-point scale, while 215 (more than 80 percent) earned a very good 85 points or higher. Riesling, the region’s leading vinifera variety, dominates the offerings here, with 121 wines.”

Here’s Molesworth’s top picks for Finer Lakes 2013 Rieslings:

In addition to Riesling, Molesworth also praises Finger Lakes varietals like Gewürtztraminer and Chardonnay and says that reds—Pinot Noir in particular—are improving across the region.
