Lento Chef Art Rogers Up For James Beard Award

JBF_AWARDS_MEDALLION-BLOGThe James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for its 2015 Restaurant and Chef Awards yesterday and Art Rogers, chef and owner of Lento Restaurant in Rochester, scored a spot under the Best Chef: Northeast category!

We’ve been singing Chef Art’s praises for years–in fact, in 2009 he and Lento earned our Local Hero award for favorite chef/restaurant. Aren’t we ahead of the curve! For our full Local Hero profile on Art and Lento, click here.

Opened in 2007, Lento is a beloved local spot praised for not only its outstanding New American cuisine, but for Chef Art’s commitment to supporting local farmers and food purveyors by sourcing as many ingredients as possible locally. The Lento website boasts “Our meat is procured locally, butchered, smoked, and cured in-house. Our produce is sourced seasonally from local farms. We pickle our own vegetables and make our own condiments, sauces, and dressings. Our breads and desserts are baked in-house daily.” If that alone doesn’t entice you to head over the Lento ASAP, perhaps this recipe from Chef Art for Duck Confit with a Pear and Cabernet Franc Gastrique and Roasted Cipollini Onions will do the trick?

Congratulations to Chef Art and the entire Lento team on this honor!
