Finger Lakes Wine of the Week:
Fox Run 2014 Doyle Family Vineyard Chardonnay
By Nicholas Baldwin
The 2014 Fox Run Doyle Family Vineyard Chardonnay has quickly become a flagship wine from Scott and Ruth Osborn, proprietors of Fox Run Vineyards. It comes from grapes grown on one of their oldest parcels of Chardonnay, planted in 1984. Fox Run continues to do fantastic work with a wide variety of Riesling offerings, and this affordable Chardonnay has caught fire and was recently picked as a “Best Buy” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
The Chardonnay shows off the unique flavors of honeydew melon, white peach, nectarines, citrus and lemon. It has a medium weight mouthfeel with very little to no oak notes, letting the true Chardonnay flavors shine through. This wine would make a great pairing with many different foods like pizza, poultry, pork, all different types of seafood, and mild cheeses. Frankly, this wine is best enjoyed on its own, slightly chilled and with friends and family. A New York State wine that ranges from $10 – $12 on your local wine shop shelf, this is a steal and a must-buy for every occasion. Grab a case or two for the summer time, it is a definite crowd pleaser.
