Flaveur Unique Condiments
Ketchups that pack a punch
By Alyssa LaFaro
Ketchup: It’s the heavyweight-boxing champion of American condiments. It’s guaranteed at every hot dog stand or burger joint, and sits on the shelves of nearly every fridge in the United Sates. This nationwide staple has become an experiment in Central New York.
Flaveur Unique Condiments is a line of artisan ketchups made with locally sourced tomatoes, onions, vinegars and sugars, so that each ketchup brings a different flavor profile to the table. Creator Alexia Falcone also utilizes ingredients like honey, lavender, thyme and hard cider when such items are in season. She began serving the fancy sauce in her restaurant, ALFA Bar and Dining Room in DeWitt, before bringing it to market in early November.
Flaveur Unique includes five different flavors to satisfy every palate. Sugar fanatics will love Happily Appily, which combines the tang of hard cider with the sweetness of local apples. Not one for sweets? Try Flaveur’s salt and malt vinegar concoction, Salty Malty. Or perhaps you’d fare better with the Carribean spice-packing Jamaican Jerk—perfect for the fiery food connoisseur. Bring some zing to your meals with The Great Lemon Caper, a tart combination of lemon and capers. And for those who want a little bit of everything, the Hot Honey Lavender starts with a kick of chili pepper and ends on a sweet note, with a smooth concoction of lavender and honey.
