Finger Lakes Wine of the Week:
Lamoreaux Landing 2013 Round Rock Vineyard Riesling
By Nicholas Baldwin
With acreage growing consistently, the team over at Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars are gaining the freedom to pick and choose from different plots of vineyard to create some of the best single vineyard Rieslings the Finger Lakes has to offer. Boasting three different single vineyard selections along with the standard dry and semi-dry releases, the winemaking team has been able to create very different Rieslings varying from dry and tart to rich and complex–their Round Rock Vineyard Riesling is the latter.
The gravelly silt loam soils make for great drainage and a comfortable home for the Riesling root stock. The healthy grapes show aromas of tangerine, white peach, honeysuckle, ripe citrus and a kiss of marmalade. It has medium level acidity balanced nicely with hints of residual sugar. It has a long lasting finish and screams to be paired with grilled seafood, fresh cheeses and fruits, and creamy avocado dishes. This select single vineyard release sells for $20 a bottle, which is a great price compared to other single vineyard Finger Lakes wines on the market. Stop by the vineyard for beautiful views and beautiful wines.
