Finger Lakes Wine of the Week:

Zugibe Vineyards 2014 Rosé

By Nicholas Baldwin

Some of the leaves in my backyard are showing signs of changing colors, but you would never expect it with the temperature in the upper 80s. As the last heat wave of the summer rolls through Upstate New York in preparation for Labor Day weekend, stocking up on refreshing rosé wines for your extended holiday weekend parties is the perfect way to step into autumn.. A beautiful pale strawberry in color, the 2014 Zugibe Vineyards Rosé is a great wine for parties.

Located on the east side of Seneca Lake, Zugibe’s rosé is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Lemberger. It has nice refreshing acidity leaving you wanting more with every sip you take and boasts an alcohol-by-volume level of 13 percent. It shows hints of strawberry, cranberry, citrus and even a subtle peppery note. It will pair with backyard party foods such as hamburgers and hot dogs, but would also present well with roasted poultry dishes, cedar plank salmon, ethnic cuisine (just not too spicy) and mild to medium intensity cheeses. It ranges in price from $11 to $13 at your local wine boutique, so be sure to pick up a few bottles for the weekend.
