Edible Finger Lakes is launching a new weekly online story series called FLX Food Photo of the Week. This project aims to showcase weekly images of the individuals involved in the Finger Lakes foodshed, from hardworking farmers in the fields to business owners selling locally-made food products with pride.
This week’s featured photo shows Autumn Stoschek who runs Eve’s Cidery with her partner Ezra Sherman. Through the cidery, Stoschek and Sherman produce critically-acclaimed, naturally-fermented ciders made with organic apples and pears grown on the hills of Van Etten, New York.
The photo is an outtake from a story Stoschek wrote for Edible Finger Lakes about how she decided to take a “sabbatical” from growing apples and making ciders by doing something a bit unusual: working in the vineyards for Forge Cellars on Seneca Lake.
Stoschek has since returned to focusing on Eve’s Cidery and she’s taken with her what she learned out in the vineyards. We are featuring this photo to help promote Cider Week Finger Lakes, a week of events being held virtually and in-person to celebrate the region’s thriving hard cider scene. Cider Week Finger Lakes 2020 runs from Friday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020. Events involving Eve’s Cidery include cider tastings on Friday, Oct. 9, and a free virtual harvest at noon on Saturday, Oct. 10. For a full schedule of events and to see all participating cideries, visit: https://ciderweekflx.com/flx/events/.
Readers are encouraged to submit their own photos to be considered for the weekly FLX Photo of the Week column, which will appear on Mondays, by emailing them to shannon@fingerlakes.maryogle.com. Those interested in having their photos featured can also tag @EdibleFingerLakes on social media with #EdibleFLXFoodPhoto when posting.
Cheers to celebrating the workers and community passion that go into creating the region’s local food and beverage scene through the visual stories captured in photos.
