We’re excited to announce that Shannon Hazlitt Harts has joined the Edible Finger Lakes team as our Digital Editor. Shannon will help us generate all the content that you see on our website and on social media channels. With so much happening on a daily basis in the Finger Lakes food, wine and farm scene, Shannon is the perfect person to help us get those stories told and share them with you.
Shannon is a Finger Lakes native who grew up on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Hector. She studied magazine journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. After graduating in December 2014, she dove into the print and online communications realm working as a newspaper reporter and then as a digital producer for a television news station. Most recently, she managed social media for a mental health magazine and serves as a copy editor and author for a company that publishes educational children’s books for the school and library markets.
Shannon has helped out in the tasting room of the Finger Lakes winery her family started and continues to run—Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards (she’s roped her amazing husband into helping too!). When not working, Shannon enjoys long-distance running, yoga, and volunteering for many causes she cares about. Her volunteering includes helping out the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association, an organization that works to promote and protect Seneca Lake.
Shannon can also often be found in the kitchen whipping up a variety of baked goods. Her favorite creations include pies made with Finger Lakes peaches, her grandmother’s legendary pineapple cookies, and brownies made with Hazlitt’s Bramble Berry wine. She divides her time between Buffalo and the Finger Lakes, coming home often to appreciate the thriving beverage and culinary scene the region has to offer.
You can reach Shannon at shannon@ediblefingerlakes.com and on our Facebook and Instagram channels. If you are interested in contributing a story or a recipe to our website, we would love to hear from you!
