Eat Here Now: Supernatural Lake

A little piece of the Big Apple has come to the Finger Lakes in the form of a pop-up wine bar on the shores of Cayuga Lake. However, it won’t be open at this location much longer.

The Wine Bar Supernatural Lake is an extension of the refined yet relaxed Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels wine bar in New York City’s NoLita neighborhood.

Caleb Ganzer is a managing partner of the establishment. They had featured many Finger Lakes wines on the menu of Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels and had visited the Finger Lakes on occasional trips to check out the area.

Supernatural Lake, which features a wine bar and rental cottages on Cayuga Lake’s shores, came to be when Ganzer and his team relocated to a rental on County Route 153 in Interlaken, N.Y. over the summer.

Visitors to Supernatural Lake can not only enjoy award-winning Finger Lakes wines with a spectacular lake view, but they can also dine on delicious dinner dishes with ingredients from local Finger Lakes vendors, such as pork from Van Noble Farms in Trumansburg.

Although it may be known as a chic wine bar, Supernatural Lake’s dinner menu doesn’t disappoint, featuring blistered Shishito peppers, lemon spaghetti with Parmesan, a brisket platter, spice-rubbed chicken, and seared duck breast.

In an upcoming special Wine Issue, Edible Finger Lakes interviews the owners of Supernatural Lake as they reflect on their summer in the Finger Lakes. A sneak peak of what Ganzer had to say about the Finger Lakes community:

“Folks up here definitely like to talk more than New Yorkers,” Ganzer said. “Everyone is very friendly, so conversations last longer, so tables can’t be turned as fast. All these cultural nuances that we just weren’t prepared for but learned to embrace.”

Supernatural Lake’s last day at its Cayuga Lake location is this Saturday, Oct. 31. On that day, it is hosting a farewell dinner “finale” five-course meal.

This dinner, which has a vegetarian option, includes: a blood pudding profiterole; celery root with shrimp butter and bone marrow; charred mackerel with pickled green tomato and Alabama white sauce; duck breast with honey nut squash and a sour cherry glaze; and a dessert of concord grapes with white chocolate and jasmine. The Wine pairing options are Lake Splash and Once In A Blue Moon. Reservations can be made via resy.com and to learn more check out Supernatural Lake on Facebook.
